Structure 40 communication skills are developed using a variety of stimulating dialogues and activities. Each chapter serves to contextualise a different speech act by placing students in real life situations. The level of language corresponds to that of modern life, with a casual language register excluding slang. Each chapter is independent of the others for greater flexibility. They are, nevertheless, grouped into 5 major themes: shopping, obtaining and giving information, more complex conversational interactions, social contact, discussions and debates. Each chapter includes an assessment page. Keeping with the Progressive series structure, the manual consists of a series of lessons set out in double-page format: On the left are several realistic, lively dialogues which are also recorded on the audio CD/cassette. There is a revision list of important expressions, comments regarding vocabulary and culture as well as practical suggestions for improved study. On the right are 3 different educational exercises: listening comprehension activities, revision activities and a roleplay or creative activity. Detailed answers are provided in a separate booklet. Dialogues are recorded on 2 audio CDs sold separately.
