DIMANCHE APRES MIDI A BAGNOLES DE ORNE

L'arrivée à Bagnoles-de-l'Orne avait quelque chose d'une entrée en scène. On passait par le centre, où les façades alignaient leur élégance un peu surannée, et l'on gagnait la terrasse du café Le Bord du Lac. De là, nous regardions vivre le monde : les enfants choisissant leur glace avec un sérieux attendrissant, les promeneurs ralentissant le pas pour mieux goûter l'instant, et les voitures tournant inlassablement autour du rond-point, comme si elles rejouaient à petite échelle la ronde éternelle des saisons. Arriving in Bagnoles-de-l'Orne had something of a theatrical entrance about it. We would pass through the town centre, where the façades displayed their slightly old-fashionned elegance in neat alignment, and then make our way to the terrace of the the Bord du Lac Café. From theere, we would watch the world go by: children choosing thier ice creams with touching seriousness, strollers slowing their pace to savour the moment, and cars endlessly circling the roundabout, as though replaying on a small scale the eternal cycle of the seasons.
