Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye a treasure in a Dauphiné (English)

A 3rd Century Egyptian hermit whose relics were brought to France from constantinople by a knight in the 11th Century, the establishment of an Almshouse and a dependency of the Benedictines, the foundation of the Order of the Hospital brothers of Saint Anthony or the Antonines in 1297 more than 700 years ago: all these and other vagaries of history led to the founding of a prestigious abbey of international renown in the heart of the region which was to become the Dauphiné.
