Zimbabwe is characterized by a resettled smallholder community. Using socio-economic analysis of agrarian reform beneficiaries, this study focused on the constraints on their performance under counter-productive conditions, namely, chaotic land redistribution; poor government support; a fast shrinking economy; and the break-down of relations with the international community. It is argued that agrarian reform in Zimbabwe needed to be initiated but has remained largely unsuccessful due to politicization and to the absence of beneficiary support.
