Frank Michael: "The String Quartet No. 6, 'dona nobis pacem', op. 96, was written between December 11, 2001 and January 4, 2002 under the impact of war and terrorism. "Dona nobis pacem" is less a prayer to God - although it certainly is one - than an appeal to humanity. "Give (yourselves) peace". A pious hope, perhaps, as is the hope that such (restrained) art can bring about any change. And yet, hopeless as it may seem, culture is the only thing we can put against war and terrorism - culture characterized by sympathy and tolerance."
