Millennial Suite: Hymns through the Ages

O come, O come Emmanuel is the first movement of the work Millennial Suite: Hymns through the Ages. The work's six movements make imaginative use of popular hymns that are presented in chronological order. In this movement, the modal language of the plainchant melody gives the music a medieval character. The melody's beautiful linear design is also highlighted in a number of contrapuntal treatments.
