This beautiful Christmas text by George Herbert, and the same text used by Vaughn Williams in his “Hodie”, has a beautiful, pastoral quality (flocks, shepherds, pastures, streams). Composer Brunner uses lyrical solo phrases, homophonic and animated passages to illuminate this expressive text.
