Elegiac Fragments

Elegiac Fragments began life as incidental music to the play Elegy, an evocation of forbidden love and a mediation on the horrific realities of life faced by gay refugees in post-liberation Iraq. The work was created and devised in 2011 by the director Douglas Rintoul with actor Jamie Bradley, based on interviews with gay Iraqi refugees by the photojournalist Bradley Secker. Seven pieces from the play were selected and sequenced to form a suite entitled Elegiac Fragments. These are fragments in the sense of broken memories pieced together to form a relic to celebrate things past.
