"Tom Swift and His Motor-Boat" follows the adventures of Tom Swift, a young inventor, as he acquires and repairs a motor-boat named the ARROW. The story begins with Tom attending an auction where he successfully bids on a damaged motor-boat previously owned by Mr. Bently Hastings. Despite competition from his rival, Andy Foger, Tom secures the boat for two hundred dollars. After purchasing the boat, Tom discovers a mysterious man tampering with the forward compartment, sparking his curiosity about the man's intentions. As Tom works on repairing the boat, he plans a vacation trip with his father and friend, Ned Newton, to explore Lake Carlopa. However, Tom's plans are threatened by Andy Foger, who seeks revenge for being outbid at the auction. Andy attempts to sabotage Tom by placing a log across a road, but Tom is warned in time by Eradicate Sampson, a local handyman. Later, Tom finds Andy's keys in his boat, indicating another attempt to cause trouble. Despite these challenges, Tom remains determined to enjoy his new motor-boat and the adventures it promises. The narrative is a blend of mystery, rivalry, and the spirit of change, showcasing Tom's ingenuity and resilience in the face of adversity.
